Comcast, the country’s largest cable operator, relies on TEKsystems to upgrade its network infrastructure.

Founded in 1963, Comcast is the country’s largest provider of cable services and one of the world’s leading communications companies. The company provides broadband cable, commerce and content services and currently serves 23.9 million cable customers, 15.3 million high-speed Internet customers and seven million voice customers across 39 states and the District of Columbia. TEKsystems and Comcast have had a strong national partnership since 2003.

Comcast made the critical business decision to expand its service offering to include VoIP-enabled technology that would enhance the quality of service delivered and serve as a platform upon which the company could add additional products. This upgrade was an integral part of the company’s ability to remain competitive in its market.

To accomplish its goal, Comcast needed to make major upgrades to its network infrastructure. Specifically, it required the rewiring of seven of its U.S. facilities to accommodate the installation of new equipment. These requirements were mission critical and time sensitive, and Comcast found itself short on resources. These factors prompted the company to seek external assistance but Comcast was wary of a turnkey approach that limited its ability to retain control over the project. TEKsystems’ scalable staffing model, flexible financing options and proven success on a national level allowed us to ease the company’s concerns and facilitated Comcast’s decision to partner with us for this project.

TEKsystems crafted a blended deployment solution that allowed us to execute key functions while enabling Comcast to maintain control over the project’s direction and progress. The TEKsystems team then assumed accountability for staffing the project, managing deliverables and handling day-to-day workload. Using our Staffing Quality Process®, we assembled a team including a project manager who acted as a single point of contact for Comcast’s internal project manager, as well as eight lead technicians and 19 high-quality technical professionals.

Over the next several months, our team was tasked with prepping each facility prior to the implementation of network upgrades and installation of the new equipment. These technicians also performed the cabling and rewiring work the client needed to meet the compatibility requirements of its new DOCSIS 3.0 protocol.
TEKsystems was able to deliver this project ahead of schedule and under budget. As a result of this partnership, the client was able to reduce the total project cost by 20 percent and cut installation time by nearly 50 percent. This enabled Comcast to complete the project ahead of schedule and under budget. Most importantly, Comcast is now able to sustain its competitive advantage and favorably position itself for future growth.
