Hanover, Md. – May 13, 2013 – As part of SAPPHIRE NOW and the ASUG annual conference, TEKsystems®, a leading professional services provider, today announced results of a survey that highlights the challenges IT professionals experienced during recent enterprise resource planning (ERP) engagements.

TEKsystems SAP Support Services is exhibiting at booth #2020 at SAPPHIRE NOW to discuss best practices for achieving ERP implementation success.

“We look forward to networking with IT and business leaders undertaking ERP initiatives at the SAPPHIRE NOW event. Through our daily interactions with organizations and IT professionals involved in SAP projects, and our industry research we consistently see the same challenges to realizing the maximum return on investment,” says TEKsystems SAP Support Services Director, David Spires. “We believe our talent management expertise can help them achieve their goals.”

The TEKsystems survey of ERP professionals revealed the following as the top challenges experienced on their most recent ERP projects:

  • Lack of qualified talent (31%)
  • Business/IT alignment (30%)
  • Less system functionality than originally defined in scope (19%)
  • Budget overruns (7%)
  • Keeping projects on track/on time (7%)
  • Lack of quality end user training (6%)

The top three skills gaps IT professionals identify as most significant on ERP-related projects are: Project managers (41 percent), Training and Education (29 percent), and Business Analysts/Configuration, Super Users, and Security (24 percent each). Eighty-eight  percent of IT professionals believe there are skills gaps for specific technologies like SAP and 86 percent of respondents indicated that SAPPHIRE NOW delivers a valuable experience citing exposure to SAP’s vision and direction, networking and training opportunities, exchange of knowledge, and exposure to real-world experiences.

“We consistently see talent management fall dangerously low on IT leaders’ priority lists during major ERP and SAP initiatives when the truth is that skill shortages are foundational to success. Experiencing an engagement where the end result delivers maximum effectiveness cannot be achieved without great people,” concludes Spires.
