Compassion International, a world renowned nonprofit Christian ministry, seeks support of TEKsystems to build its internal Project Management Organization.

Founded by the Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion International exists as a nonprofit Christian advocacy ministry that seeks to release children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty. The goal of the company is to enable children to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults and today, Compassion serves more than one million children in 26 countries. TEKsystems has partnered with this client since 1999.
Windows® 7; MS Exchange 2008; VMware; Active Directory; LANDesk; Snagit; ITSM; HP routers and switches; IIS; Customer Interaction Center (CIC); .NET; TFS; PowerBuilder; Visual Studio; ASP.net; SQL Server; Neuron (SOA); Biztalk (SOA); Tridion; Hyperion; Informatica; Planview; SharePoint 2007 Enterprise Edition; WCF (dev); Infopath; COM Plus

The client decided to build out its Project Management Organization and associated methodology by augmenting PMI methods to align to its existing processes and procedures. It wanted a programmatic approach to project management but lacked the scalability needed to maintain that consistency. The client decided to outsource to a vendor that could help it attain high-quality people, mitigate risk and maximize project outcomes. The client was intimately aware of our ability to offer a business solution beyond a typical staffing arrangement and selected TEKsystems because of our deep understanding of its mission, culture and project management needs.

TEKsystems understood that in order for Compassion to raise its PMO operations to the desired level, it would require a partner that offered a structured and proven approach to delivering consistent resource quality, scalable deployment options to respond to changing project needs and expertise in project management fundamentals, performance and resource management. The client counted on us to bring a spirit of change and focus on continuous improvement that aligned directly to its focus.

The client had never utilized a fully outsourced model and was highly skeptical. We took an interim approach by helping it understand that the value of a managed services engagement was its ability to build a bridge between pure staffing and fully outsourced PMO solutions. The client found this to be an attractive option, which allowed it to drive the project’s direction while holding TEKsystems responsible for providing managed services and executing day-to-day tasks.

To meet objectives, TEKsystems developed a managed services solution predicated on growing a co-sourced PMO to 10 dedicated resources that were tasked with supporting the company’s core programs, business analysis and knowledge management initiatives as well as handle project management and coordination. This team worked with the client’s four program managers, gave them a matrix of TEKsystems resources they could use and enabled them to opt into a right-fit PMO solution.

This project is currently running on schedule and within budget. The managed services solution implemented by TEKsystems is successfully providing a customized project management program that meets Compassion’s current and future business objectives. The project team deployed exhibits superior skill in resource selection and management, on- and off-boarding, knowledge transfer and ensures alignment and adherence to industry standard and client-specific methodologies, standards, processes and procedures. From a management perspective, the value-added services performed by TEKsystems further position the client for improved performance management, deliverable execution and project implementation, tracking and reporting.
