A global financial services corporation seeks staff augmentation services from TEKsystems to support its data center move and virtualization project.
The client is a global leader in investment management, asset and fund administration and fiduciary and banking solutions. For nearly 120 years, it has supported its client base of corporations, institutions and affluent individuals around the world. The client recently reported $81 billion in banking assets, $3.9 trillion in assets under custody and $657 billion in assets under management. TEKsystems has partnered with this client since 1999 and currently has over 100 consultants working on site.
The client sought to increase productivity, lower costs and achieve better server utilization by consolidating its existing data center assets and migrating to a blended virtual environment. To this end, TEKsystems first worked with the client to complete a virtualization initiative. The focus then shifted to executing the data center relocation. The main drivers for this relocation stemmed from the company’s desire for a modernized data center facility with a more cost-efficient power supply and improved security. The client decided to relocate away from the large metropolitan area and settle instead into a more cost-effective and secure neighboring suburb. Several employees from the client infrastructure engineering team were relocated to support this large move. The client sought a quality staffing partner to provide resources to backfill these vacated positions and provide additional resources for the expanding program.
TEKsystems worked closely with the client to develop comprehensive technical profiles for the resources needed as well as a strong employee value proposition to attract the best available talent in the market. Over 18 months, key skills were acquired to support the various phases of the project. These included SAN architects; a seven-person database team comprised of five Oracle 11G DBAs and two SQL Server 2008 DBAs; a seven-person server engineering team consisting of four Unix engineers and three Windows architects; a network architecture team consisting of five network architects; and a 13-person project management team with coordination support. This talented team of niche skills blended seamlessly to execute the assigned tasks. This included accommodating the client’s desire to minimize downtime by performing some of the needed work during nights and weekends.
