TEKsystems Continues Sponsorship of the 16th Annual Pat's Run for the Sixth Year,
as Pat Tillman Foundation Fundraiser Goes Virtual

April 16, 2020 | HANOVER, MD

TEKsystems®, a provider of full-stack technology services that address the pressing strategy, implementation and talent needs for more than 80% of the Fortune 500, is proud to announce its continued sponsorship of the Pat Tillman Foundation’s 16th annual Pat’s Run, which will take place virtually on Saturday, April 18, 2020. Funds raised from Pat’s Run support the Tillman Scholar program, the premier academic fellowship for veterans and their spouses, building a diverse community of leaders committed to serving others.

Held annually to honor Pat’s legacy, the 4.2-mile run/walk has historically wound through the streets of Tempe and finished at Sun Devil Stadium. However, this year organizers are prioritizing the health and safety of runners, volunteers and staff in accordance with guidance from government officials regarding COVID-19 and have announced that participants will honor Pat’s legacy virtually. Rather than running through Tempe en masse, participants are encouraged to run 4.2 miles individually, wherever they are.

“We’re thankful for TEKsystems’ continued support of and commitment to the betterment of veterans and their families,” says Dan Futrell, chief executive officer of the Pat Tillman Foundation. “COVID-19 has challenged us and our sense of certainty. But during this time, we are bearing witness to a community that is showing what it means to unite together—wherever they are—and prevail to make a tangible difference, teach a message of ‘service beyond self’ and empower the next generation of leaders.”

TEKsystems’ partnership with the Pat Tillman Foundation for the past six years is part of the company’s larger commitment to supporting U.S. military and veterans. The company recognizes that being in the military provides servicemen and servicewomen with specialized skills and work ethic. TEKsystems helps veterans and their spouses leverage their experience to build a meaningful career. Since 2013, the company has helped more than 18,000 servicemen and servicewomen in their career aspirations in a wide variety of fields, including the leadership of TEKsystems itself.

“At TEKsystems, we are passionate about helping veterans, military members and spouses fulfill their dreams through long-term career success” says Jay Alvather, president of TEKsystems. “The Pat Tillman Foundation has created a tremendous network and community for the military, and we’re proud to continue our partnership with them for the sixth year.”

“As a veteran myself, I see in my peers the desire to serve others as a core value, and they seek to continue serving others after service. People like that being coupled with the support of the Pat Tillman Foundation have the potential to change their communities, if not the world,” says Mike Powers, veterans and disabilities program manager for TEKsystems and a retired Army National Guard member and combat veteran. “At TEKsystems, we strive to empower and encourage service members and their families to be the positive change they seek to continue to be.”

About the Pat Tillman Foundation

In 2002, Pat Tillman proudly put his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals on hold to serve his country. Family and friends established the Pat Tillman Foundation following Pat’s death in April 2004 while serving with the 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan. The Pat Tillman Foundation unites and empowers remarkable military veterans and spouses as the next generation of public and private sector leaders committed to service beyond self. The fellowship program supports Tillman Scholars with academic scholarships, a national network and professional development opportunities, so they are empowered to make an impact in the world.
