The challenge:Infrastructure Modernisation at a Standstill
Following a significant initiative from their US-based global headquarters, our client’s Japan entity needed to migrate and modernise their databases, automate CI/CD pipelines, and enhance their AWS cloud computing capabilities. However, this infrastructure transformation encountered several obstacles due to the poor performance of their existing managed services vendor.
Facing significant time constraints, our client was prompted to explore strategic alternatives and engage a high-quality, cost-effective partner to bring their database platform automation and AWS migration back on track. Enter TEKsystems to bridge the gaps with our specialised expertise.
Our proposal:A roadmap to the cloud
TEKsystems’ delivery team met with key stakeholders from our client to understand their pain points and bridge the gaps between their current state and desired future state. Our ability to quickly deploy, scale, and retain a team of skilled database automation, DevOps, and AWS SMEs was a vital component of our bespoke solution.
Leveraging our pre-qualified talent pool and using a referral-based approach, our delivery team swiftly identified high-calibre bilingual (Japanese and English) consultants with expertise in Ansible, Jenkins, Terraform, and AWS tools. In addition, our consultants had prior replicable experience in delivering database migration and CI/CD automation initiatives in enterprise-scale environments.
To instil best practices and ensure alignment with the global HQ, our consultants worked closely with key technical and functional stakeholders based in our client’s Japan and US businesses. This was instrumental in minimising discrepancies, resolving blockers, and ensuring the on-time fulfilment of key programme milestones.

TEKsystems deployed a high-performance database automation squad of four bilingual consultants – including one Database Operations Manager (the lead), two Senior Database Automation Specialists, and one Database Automation Specialist with strong expertise in using AWS tools.
Throughout their ongoing tenure, our consultants have made several pivotal contributions, provided innovative solutions, and bridged the existing capability gaps of our client. Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and other on-premises databases were seamlessly migrated to AWS PostgreSQL. This has significantly increased scalability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness, while reducing the overall infrastructure management overheads. With their knowledge of Terraform and Ansible, our consultants have automated several CI/CD pipelines and introduced process efficiencies to accelerate release cycles. As a result, our client is now reaping the benefits of enhanced infrastructure reliability, smoother orchestration, and more comprehensive configuration management.
Following the success of the initial engagement, our team’s scope of work has now evolved from database automation to elevating DevOps engineering capabilities. TEKsystems is now scaling our team with four additional DevOps Automation Engineers over the coming months – with the entire team set to double in size by the end of the year.
