As part of their digital transformation programme, our client sought to revamp and migrate their core e-commerce platform. Comprising several legacy sub-systems and an outdated technical stack, the platform was clunky and over two decades old. This created significant technical debt and impacted the scalability, performance, and compatibility of the platform and its associated functionalities, prompting our client to kickstart a massive, multi-phase modernisation drive.

In addition to the revamp, our client intended to add new leisure products, luxury services, and online payment provisions to enhance their customer experience and engagement. Despite engaging 100+ recruitment agencies and IT vendors, they struggled to streamline the resourcing processes and quickly bring in high-calibre talent locally in Japan. Seeking a high-quality and cost-effective resourcing model with the flexibility to insource consultants as full-time employees (FTEs), our client engaged TEKsystems to support their initiatives.

TEKsystems’ Tokyo-based delivery team met with key stakeholders across different departments to scope their resourcing requirements. Leveraging our extensive pre-qualified talent pool across the required application development, testing, and project management skillsets, we were able to quickly deploy high-calibre consultants to support the platform modernisation and migration initiatives.

Emphasis was placed on deploying consultants who were well-versed in the domain, experienced in handling similar enterprise-scale migration and modernisation initiatives, and proficient in communication and stakeholder engagement skills. 60+ consultants were converted to FTEs with our client post the completion of their initial 12-month assignments.

Working in close collaboration with our client’s technical leadership, TEKsystems’ consultants have uplifted technical standards, addressed existing bottlenecks, and instilled best practices in application design, development, and testing. They were instrumental in upgrading our client’s core e-commerce platform, including their checkout, merchant, and order management systems. As a result, the e-commerce applications, both web and mobile, are now more responsive and scalable, capable of catering to high customer volumes, driving strong engagement, and personalising the user experience.

Over the past two years, TEKsystems’ consultants have driven significant improvements across seven departments and multiple customer-facing initiatives. They accelerated the design and development of new features on the e-commerce platform, such as entertainment facility reservations, lottery, luxury products, and online payment services.
