Our client is a US-based hyperscale computing, storage, cloud, and IT infrastructure services provider.
The challenge:The clock is ticking
Our client partnered with a market-leading technology giant to ramp up their data centre operations in Japan across Tokyo and Osaka. To fulfil their deliverables to their end customer, it was pivotal for our client to bring in the right technical expertise, set up all the necessary equipment, and instil proper configuration and troubleshooting capabilities in the data centres.
Adding complexity was the tight timeline as our client needed to onboard a specialised team of seven skilled Data Centre Technicians within a month. The team would comprise of technicians across different experience levels and had to be deployed in a cost-effective manner. With their existing local vendors struggling to deliver, our client partnered with TEKsystems to leverage our expertise in supporting enterprise-scale customers in scaling their data centres.

TEKsystems partnered with key stakeholders to develop a thorough understanding of our client’s project roadmap, requirements, existing challenges, and timelines. Utilising our deep knowledge of the market, our specialised account managers provided in-depth insights to our client on talent availability and set up a time-bound implementation plan to fulfil their hiring needs.
Leveraging our referral-based approach and targeted sourcing strategies, TEKsystems quickly identified suitable data centre operators across different experience levels. To stay cost-competitive, we sourced resources locally in Japan, and relocated top talent from other APAC locations. Deploying a diverse team with strong technical and functional understanding of data centre operations enabled our consultants to bring their unique expertise to the table and support each other to upskill and collaborate effectively – thereby ensuring that the whole was greater than the sum of its parts.
To ensure the right technical and cultural fit, we leveraged our current consultants on-site at our client to screen potential candidates. This was instrumental in saving valuable time and effort of our client and ensured that all the resources we deployed immediately hit the ground running.
Real-world Results
Combining quality, speed, and cost-effectiveness, TEKsystems went above and beyond in delivering on our client’s requirements. Instead of deploying seven resources as initially required, we proactively identified and onboarded eight high-calibre Data Centre Technicians within a month, including a lead to oversee the entire team. With additional capacity in place, our client was able to aggressively scale their data centre operations and take on more work from their end customer. Our consultants leveraged their subject matter expertise to instill best practice, drive process efficiencies, and meet critical project milestones on time, leaving no stone unturned.
To ensure constant engagement, high performance, and retention, TEKsystems had monthly face-to-face touchpoints with all consultants where we tracked progress, consolidated their learning, addressed any challenges, and suggested areas of improvement. We relayed their feedback to our client and vice-versa, thereby facilitating strong communication and stakeholder alignment throughout the project implementation.
Since our partnership commenced, TEKsystems has deployed over ten Data Centre Technicians in Japan, with two more to be re-engaged soon. We continue to support our client’s strategic roadmap of building two additional data centres in Japan in the coming months as well as expand our partnership to support their teams based in the US, Hong Kong, and China.
