Our client is a Hong Kong-based microinsurance startup with a mission to make insurance simple, flexible, and affordable by leveraging decentralised blockchain technology.

The challenge:Lost in Translation

In order to establish a sizeable customer base and fulfil existing partnership commitments, our client was aggressively developing and releasing their microinsurance products to the Hong Kong market. This was an integral part of their ambitious roadmap to secure Series A funding.

However, their offshore IT delivery team in Thailand was struggling to build their core digital platform, lacking both capacity and mobile development expertise to create and launch additional product offerings. Adding further complication was the lack of Cantonese language capability, impacting platform marketability in Hong Kong.

With time running out, our client desperately needed highly skilled Cantonese-speaking digital resources at minimum cost. Enter TEKsystems.

TEKsystems worked hand-in-hand with our client’s leadership team, identifying the three most urgent microinsurance products that had to be delivered to the market. With a tight onboarding timeline, we leveraged our flexible bench of Cantonese and Mandarin-speaking technical and functional resources. We identified consultants who had replicable experience and were the right culture fit to work in a dynamic, startup environment, to ensure that high utilisation targets could be reached as early as the second week post onboarding.

Our digital resources helped to bolster their product marketing campaigns and SEO strategies, while our software engineers provided technical expertise for web and mobile development using React Native, ReactJS, GraphQL, Restful API, and AWS Cloud technologies.

Real-World Results

TEKsystems identified and deployed a team of expert consultants within ten days, providing the additional bandwidth that our client needed, along with bridging gaps in technical skills and providing language proficiency in Cantonese and Mandarin.

Our resources were retained throughout the project cycle and made pivotal contributions, including successfully developing and released two product offerings within the first 12-weeks of engagement, with the third product in pre-production phase.

Our client met their aggressive product rollout timelines and enhanced investor confidence, thereby enabling them to secure additional funding in excess of US$ 4.1 million. With their finances sorted for the foreseeable future, our client launched an extensive marketing campaign to attract the Gen Z audience to use their application.

Off the back of our initial success, the TEKsystems project team was extended to support multiple product releases and ramp up their in-house product management and UX/UI design capabilities.
