The challenge: UX - The Missing Piece of the Puzzle

Our client’s ambition was to become one of the first licensed go-to-market digital banks in Singapore. During the planning phase of their digital banking application rollout, our client faced major hindrances to their product development roadmap due to the lack of specialised in-house UX design capabilities. Having a seamless UX was critical to ensure customer satisfaction and engagement and our client wanted this to be a key differentiator that made them a class apart from their competitors.

The local UX design talent pool was limited, and with several startups on the rise and vying to attract top talent, it was a highly competitive labour market in Singapore. This prompted our client to explore strategic resourcing alternatives. Enter TEKsystems, to deploy expert designers and bring our client’s vision full-circle.

TEKsystems partnered with the Head of Design to understand their product design and development roadmap. Identifying their specific requirements and challenges, we provided a high quality, flexible, scalable, and cost-effective resourcing solution, tailored to our client’s needs.

With strict NDAs in place to maintain confidentiality, information on the team, projects, and product roadmap could not be shared with potential resources. Despite this constraint, the deep relationships and trust we developed with our talent network meant our resources had faith in the alignment of the opportunity to their career aspirations. Combined with our client’s EVP, this trust enabled us to attract an initial pool of resources for the project.

Our specialised delivery teams conducted robust up-front screening and ensured that the resources we identified and deployed were the right technical and cultural fit. We also advised our client on streamlining their hiring process and created interview methodologies and screening guidelines to enable them to effectively assess candidates and their portfolios, particularly within UX skillsets.

Our dedicated account managers shared talent mapping, salary benchmarking, and the latest market intel with our client, enabling them to gain an in-depth understanding of the local talent pool and how to effectively address the skills gaps.

Since 2021, TEKsystems has made six placements, including two UX Designers, one UX Researcher, one Site Reliability Engineer, one Software Developer, and one Head of Digital Workplace on-site at our client’s Singapore location.

Within nine months of our UX designers onboarding, our client was able to launch their digital banking application for their B2C customers in Singapore. Due to a highly personalised and seamless UX, they were able to attract a large volume of customers to sign up within a short period of time post the application launch. The average time required to open a bank account was less than three minutes and the process was significantly simpler and user-friendly compared to conventional banks, which formed our client’s unique selling proposition.

The contributions made by our UX designers have been pivotal in our client’s disruptive growth, reaching the milestone of 600K+ active users within one year of its launch. As a result of our sustained efforts and positive feedback from customers, our client has won several local, regional, and international awards for their pioneering work in transforming the digital banking space.

TEKsystems’ have now expanded our partnership to support the development of other financial products and accelerate our client's rapid market penetration and customer acquisition efforts, enabling them to become one of Singapore’s premier digital banks.
