Hanover, Md. – November 19, 2014 – TEKsystems®, a leading provider of IT staffing solutions, IT talent management expertise and IT services, today announced their sponsorship of the 21st annual PhD Project Conference, being held at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare from November 19-21, 2014. Since 2012, TEKsystems has supported The PhD Project, a 501(c) (3) organization founded by the KPMG Foundation in 1994 to recruit minority professionals from business into doctoral programs in all business disciplines.
In 1994, there were only 294 doctorally-qualified African-American, Hispanic American or Native American business professors in all U.S. business schools. Now, as The PhD Project celebrates its 20th anniversary, there are more than 1,200 minority business professors. The goal of the conference is for participants and their students to gather information on the tools and resources required to prepare for the admission process to doctoral programs as well as for employers to share information on available career opportunities.
“Organizations that recognize the importance of a diverse workforce know the value it brings to strengthening a company’s brand, serving customers, and developing solutions to business and organizational challenges. There’s a great opportunity to build on the progress that is being celebrated at the PhD Project Conference, but there’s more we can do,” says Michelle Webb, director of diversity and inclusion at TEKsystems. “For us, it starts with getting involved in events, networking with like-minded employers and job seekers, and building the right partnerships with organizations like The PhD Project.”
