History and Culture

TEKsystems' History

In 1983, two entrepreneurs created Aerotek, a company that offered consulting services and an incredible dedication to meeting client  needs—no matter how challenging or complex. Clients appreciated Aerotek’s unrelenting commitment to client satisfaction and within the first year of operations, Aerotek earned over $1 million in revenue.

Through the remainder of the 1980s, Aerotek developed several subsidiaries (Data Temps, Aerotek Data Services Group, Maxim Group) that expanded beyond aeronautics, engineering and light industrial markets to meet IT applications, infrastructure and communications needs. TEKsystems® split from Aerotek in the 1990s to focus on and specialize in IT.

Today, TEKsystems is a flagship company of Allegis Group, the world’s largest talent management company with annual revenue exceeding $8.4 billion. TEKsystems provides a range of IT services, IT staffing solutions and IT talent management expertise. Our value proposition is cemented in our real-word insight into what works in IT and our unmatched network of the highest-caliber IT experts.

In a single year, we deploy over 80,000 IT consultants to support critical IT engagements at 6,000 client sites, including 82 percent of the Fortune 500. With more than 100 offices, nearly 4,000 employees throughout North America, Europe and Asia, and relationships with 81 percent of the IT workforce, we speak with over 100,000 IT professionals and meet with more than 10,000 face-to-face every week. This reach grants us advanced insight into the IT labor market, and superior speed and selectivity when recruiting IT consultants to manage and support IT initiatives.

With nearly $3 billion in annual revenue, our size speaks to our experience and success in helping our clients achieve their business targets. However, being the largest company in our industry is not what differentiates us.Over the course of TEKsystems’ history, we have earned the respect of our clients and our consultants by delivering on our promises and outperforming our competitors.

The TEKsystems Culture

Our core values guide our hiring decisions, shape how we make a meaningful impact in the IT market, and define the TEKsystems culture.

  • Relationships
Strong business relationships are the foundation of an exceptional service experience. We take every opportunity to understand our clients’ businesses and missions, as well as our consultants’ skills, goals and interests. This insight enables us to build trust, tailor our services and deliver superior outcomes. Building relationships also allows us to tap into the varied talents, perspectives and insights of a diverse workforce and client base. We harness this collective diversity to solve our clients’ challenges and advance our consultants’ career goals.
  • Commitment
Our commitment to meeting our customers’ and consultants' expectations is the foundation for building trust in our business relationships. Simply put, we foster an environment that demands integrity and accountability for results. To ensure our clients and our consultants know exactly what they can expect from us, we make it our mission to hire smart, honest and hardworking individuals who possess a great deal of pride in setting the bar high and keeping their word.
  • Serving Others
We’ve created a “whatever it takes” attitude among our team by respecting people who do the right thing, especially when that means prioritizing the needs of others ahead of their own interests. By finding meaning and purpose in leading through meeting the needs of our teammates, clients and consultants, we experience the highest levels of engagement and satisfaction across all of our relationships.
  • Open Communication
It is our goal to continually enhance the service experience we provide to our clients and consultants. To achieve that end, we believe in giving and receiving direct, honest feedback on areas of improvement and opportunities for growth. This open communication model enables us to help each other develop professionally. It also allows us to forge strong client and consultant relationships that deliver superior business outcomes.

People

National Education Foundation (NEF)

TEKsystems recently announced a new partnership with the National Education Foundation (NEF), a national nonprofit focused on closing the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM+) skills gap in the school system. NEF's mission of educating and training through technology, with the intention of better preparing students to enter the workforce, aligns closely with TEKsystems' goals and values.

TEKsystems is contributing to NEF's efforts to establish STEM+ cyber learning academies and mentorship at disadvantaged schools in six markets across the United States: Baltimore (Ft. Meade, Md.); Raleigh, N.C.; Chicago (Schaumburg, lll.); Dallas; Denver and Seattle. In addition, our local offices and consultants in each market will be involved through activities and mentorship programs that can impact the students or parents/guardians in the NEF program. This initiative reinforces TEKsystems' efforts to support the communities where our employees live and work.

Enactus

TEKsystems is proud to partner with Enactus, formerly known as Students in Free Enterprise. An international nonprofit that works with leaders in business and higher education to mobilize university students to make a difference, Enactus seeks to develop the skills necessary to become socially responsible business leaders.

TEKsystems' contribution helps Enactus sponsor national university competitions that challenge student teams to take an entrepreneurial approach to developing community outreach projects. This partnership allows TEKsystems to make a difference in the local community while also recruiting talented university students and helping them find jobs.

Community

Involvement

We believe in giving back and helping to build and develop the future workforce. We've historically partnered with our parent company, Allegis Group, and the Allegis Group Foundation to assist our employees with community volunteerism by providing financial aid for eligible organizations. Today, we manage the Allegis Group Foundation funds allocated for TEKsystems by working directly with employees to provide charitable matching donations. Last year, the Allegis Group Foundation committed over $1 million to eligible organizations.

As an organization, TEKsystems supports many charitable organizations, both at the company level and the local office level, including:

  • American Cancer Society
  • American Diabetes Association
  • American Heart Association
  • Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired
  • Autism Speaks
  • Blair Early Childhood Development School
  • Canadian Cancer Society
  • CollegeBound Foundation
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Kennedy Krieger Institute
  • Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
  • Living Classrooms
  • Make a Wish Foundation
  • Muscular Dystrophy Association
  • National Multiple Sclerosis Society
  • Parents and Researchers Interested in Smith-Magenis Syndrome
  • Pelotonia
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities
  • Special Olympics
  • Tomorrow Children's Fund

Environmental Responsibility

TEKsystems recognizes we have a part in protecting the environment. We seek to lessen our environmental impact and reduce our carbon footprint. Below is a sampling of standard programs and efforts for our corporate headquarters and local offices.

  • Introduced desk-side recycling bins, improving the convenience of recycling for all employees, and provide multiple recycling-only bins for paper, glass, plastic and aluminum products. All shredded documents are baled and recycled through our document destruction vendor.
  • Increased the percent of employees paid through direct deposit to 88 percent, saving millions of checks and envelopes.
  • Reduced the percent of consultants who fax timecards to less than 5 percent (they now use online Web sheets), saving paper and energy.
  • Virtualized 44 of 58 servers for various applications used every day, reducing 40 percent of Web servers and their associated energy usage.
  • Reduced non-biodegradable landfill waste by eliminating disposable cups made of expanded polystyrene foam (i.e., Styrofoam) and provided every new employee with a hard-plastic drinking cup and ceramic mug for daily use.
  • Purchased green office and cleaning supplies. Last year, nearly 20 percent of our office supplies purchased nationally were recycled or environmentally friendly products.
  • Encouraged double-sided printing to reduce our paper consumption.
  • Implemented new technology to reduce the energy consumption of our data centers.
  • Installed motion-sensor lighting throughout offices to save energy when areas are not in use.
